    Nigeria @ 57: 10 Things I Love about Nigeria(ns).

So this is the first light hearted post I have written in a while (actually since August 2017) but I feel like doing this will be rejuvenating plus Nigeria turned 57 on the 1st of October, so it’s just right. Normally, this post should have been written and published on the 1st of October but I guess I was not up for it. Today is a public holiday and I have a bit of time, so why not…. You must already have guessed, I am a Nigerian (Nigeria is located in West Africa). My state of origin is Anambra which is the Eastern part on the map of Nigeria. The Easterners…

How you can manage your expectations.

Happy New Month Fam!!  Yesterday I put up a post on instagram @phaytea with a caption about being excited at ‘start up’, retaining the tempo but knowing you should manage your expectations too. I got the nugde to write about it and so…here you go… I remember while watching the Big Brother Nigeria Eviction Show some weeks ago, a housemate who was up for eviction said she did not want to go home because the world had nothing to offer her (first mistake). I had not totally ‘processed’ that when another housemate said she always expects the worst from life (it seems we have too many people prophesying negativity).  At the end…

    On beautiful memories and change

It’s Saturday morning (well, thats when i started writing this post, it will probably get published on sunday) and I woke up in my room…. the room i had before the ‘Mrs’ tag. I spent the night at my parents for the first time since I got married and it is still as beautiful as I remember especially mum praying by my bedside very early before the day is bright. I stayed in bed all morning just thinking about beautiful memories and life changing decisions i made while in my private space. I also thought about how our priorities and responsibilities differ once there is a bit of change. In…

    Nothing to wear

Ever felt like you do not have anything to wear? Even when your closet is actually filled with clothes? You need to declutter. That was me a few days ago and it was not a tiny bit funny. After the frantic search, I finally picked an outfit. Of course, I arrived at my destination late. Are you asking why I did not sort that out the night before? Well, I did in my head but…..Girl problems😉😉 On my way out, I thought about what happened back home. Even though I finally found what to wear, I also realised I had too many things I did not need. This basically made…

9 ways to get over peeves

Your first thought once you wake up in the morning plays a major role as to how your day will go. Yes? On days when you wake up to lovely expectations or a nice text, you sail smoothly and all is well with the world. However,  a nice text from a loved one in the morning will not automatically make you have a great day. If you have to face the world, you know that not all days are unruffled. You probably have to put up with a meddlesome colleague, drive through crazy traffic, deal with the person who just hit your car, a flat tyre, tolerating your neighbour who…

How to procrastinate and still meet deadlines

Edward Young said ‘Procrastination is the thief of time’, but I prefer saying procrastination steals time but also gives you time to prepare a perfect comeback. Procrastination is the avoidance of performing a task or delaying the performance of a task. It’s a good feeling to just relax and get things done later but you can also get into trouble when you miss a deadline. We read so much about the shortcomings but forget there can be good sides too if we have the right attitude. No hasty conclusions yet, but here is why I say so. Over the years, I have always had a knack to do things only…

    On making choices

I walked into my side chic’s salon not being sure how I will be received. I had not been to hers for about seven months and well I had my reason. Ah! Aunty!! Long time…. ‘You just forget me. She said, looking excited. No o..Haba…I no fit…I quickly answered while smiling. Ok. As always, she was happy to see me so I settled in and she started sorting my hair while we continued catching up. In all fairness to side chic, she is good at her job but I only like to use her for braids, ghana weaving and styles that are close to home. She thinks she’s best of both…

    Lessons from falling

I looked up surprised and was wondering why my mum seemed delighted that I had just fallen. I was not sure if I should laugh or cry from the effect of the fall. The domestic help beckoned on me to stand up and try again while my mum called on my dad to come see his daughter take her first steps. My Grandma was definitely doing the ‘avu-ukwu’ (that is the popular waist dance done by igbo women). If mobile phones were readily available as it is now, my mum would have called all her siblings immediately to give them the good news and maybe also capture the moment it…

    Pushing the Envelope

Nope!! This is not a piece about white or brown envelopes. ✉📨 This is not also about how ‘pushing the envelope’ is a reference to the flyable portion of the atmosphere that envelopes the earth or how Pilots would push the envelope when they were testing the speed or elevation limits of a new aircraft. Nothing as deep as that. I am however interested in ‘pushing the envelope’ as a concept of identifing and testing limits, wanting to do more, aiming to forge ahead, trying out new things, exceeding and stretching limits in every area of our life. Basically, just wanting to do more……oh!! I said that already. It is…
