Meaningful Living

World Gratitude Day ||5 Ways To Show Gratitude Daily.

Today is globally recognized as World Gratitude Day and even though I have made gratitude a way of life, I cannot help but seize every opportunity to acknowledge the importance of gratitude for a meaningful life.

The last time I did a Gratitude Challenge, I was really just grateful for life at that point because my family and I were managing a terrible loss. I needed a channel to constantly remind myself that there is always something to be grateful for and that challenge was the perfect outlet.

A lot has happened since then and I have realized that Gratitude should be a constant way of life. Amidst the challenges, disappointments and uncertainties in life, one just needs to practice Gratitude daily.

Gratitude is an important part of life as it helps you build meaningful relationships, stay optimistic and find happiness in the little things.

Here are 5 Way To Show Gratitude Daily:

1. Be Positive.

Everyone keeps saying ‘stay positive’ or ‘avoid negative thoughts’ like it is so easy. Heck, it is difficult. It is difficult to be hopeful when you are going through so much pain and agony.

The truth is, no one has a perfect life and it will take time before you get to the point of staying positive when you are in distress. It does not have to happen in one day, but with the right vibe from people around you, you will gradually learn to see the bright side of things.

You will realize that hard times do not last and things can actually get better. Here’s a post I found helpful – How To Stay Positive

2. Match Your Appreciation With Action.

We definitely have different ways of showing gratitude but I have always been part of those who like to be vocal about showing appreciation. Kind gestures, a lovely note saying thank you, a date, gifts, a mention on your various social media platforms some little things that shows gratitude.

If someone does something nice for you, let your appreciation show in words and actions, Tell your parents you love them, if you have kids, be their biggest cheerleader. When your employee does a good job at work, commend his or her effort. Say ‘Thank you’ when you get compliments. Tell your partner how he/she is a great companion, help your friends grow their business, support them etc

Gratitude is simply being expressive of the happiness you feel within.

3. Be Your Biggest Cheer leader.

As adults, there is every possibility that we may want to get validation that we are doing a good job from our bosses, partner, parents or even children. This is not totally wrong as it is a good feeling when we get compliments.

However, what happens if the compliments do not come? How do you react when you do not get the commendation you seek, especially when you know you are doing a good job?

Guys, be your biggest cheerleader, acknowledge your effort, You are smart, you are hard working, you are giving your best and your best is good enough. Be grateful for the man or woman or mother you have become, be grateful for the little victories and the little wins, be grateful for the big step you just took even though it is still a bit shaky. Be grateful for YOU.

4 – Have a Gratitude Journal / Jar.

One good activity that can prompt you to live a life of gratitude is keeping a gratitude journal or jar.

Intentionally journaling the things you are grateful for on a daily basis helps you appreciate the goodness of all your life entails. It reminds you of your wins when you are sad and can motivate you when you need a nudge.

The gratitude jar does the same job only that this time, you fold each sheet and leave it in a jar daily. It is ya good tradition to open up the jar on the last day of every year and just read out everything you have written.

5 – Start Your Morning With Gratitude .

Saving the best for last!

Once the first ray of light hits your eyes, it is only appropriate that you show gratitude for being alive. Depending on your morning routine, find time to meditate or pray.

What I Am Grateful For

Personally, I feel like it is difficult to mention everything you are grateful for. However, these are the things I must always mention:

  1. I am a Grateful for Life.
  2. I am Grateful for my support system. These are the people closest to my heart who pray for me, with me and show up in good or not so good times.
  3. I am so Grateful for God’s Protection. There are times when I have no idea why things happen the way they do, then somehow light shines through the tunnel. God is super amazing and I am always in awe of his love for me.
  4. I am Grateful for numerous privileges/opportunities.

You do not have to wait for a particular day to be grateful, make gratitude a way of life.
