WordSearchSeries#9: Grotesquely + Interracial Relationships.

Hi hi….

Oh…how I’ve missed sharing new words on Wednesday #WordSearchSeries.

We went on a break all April because of the #AtoZChallenge but we are back and we aim to please.

Today on #WordSearchSeries, we found Grotesquely and we found it while reading Ladieswholunchreviews, a blog that participated in the #AtoZChallenge as well.

Grotesquely

Grotesquely is one of those words I see but never use. I saw it again on the first of April 2017 and decided it was time to check the meaning.

Here’s what I found out:

Depending on the statement, it can be used as an adjective – Grotesque

For example, Jim Carrey found the grotesque mask in The Mask Movie.

or as an Adverb – Grotesquely.

In a shockingly inappropriate manner.

For example, A judge who grotesquely abused his position.

In a comically or repulsively ugly or distorted manner.

For example, Sharon’s body was twisted grotesquely on the floor of her classroom, blood from her smashed left temple…..

Did you feel the chills, read the complete A for Apple entry. You’ll love it.

There you have it Lovelies, if grotesque/grotesquely is a word you do not use, it can be added your list.

I like that I find words that interest me when I read your blogs….

Trust me to share it on #WordSearchSeries once I spot it.

Wonder Wednesday.

I’ll explain.

The last #WordSearchSeries had a topic for deliberation and I enjoyed reading your opinion on morning routines.

This is why I have included #WonderWednessday where we can also deliberate on topical issues.

This means every Wednesday, we will have #WordSearchSeries and #WonderWednessday.

Generous much? ?

So for #WonderWednessday, I’m wondering…

Should interracial relationships still be an issue in the 21st century?

I finally watched Mum, Dad Meet Sam some months back and of course the storyline was what I expected. I did not write a review but here’s a summary.

A learned Nigerian man living in the UK falls in love with an ‘English’ lady, he takes her to meet his family in Nigeria and well…. there’s a dramatic mum.. lots of awkward situations…cultural differences e.t.c…I’ll leave your imagination to go wild but it is a romantic comedy i enjoyed watching.

As expected though, Love conquered all but you know only true love will be willing to go through thick and thin in order to stay together.

With the amout of exposure and civilisation, I would expect that parents or individuals should not have an issue with interracial or intertribal relationships…. Well, thats just me thinking…

In Nigeria, such issues are handled by both individual choices and parental consent.

But I’m still wondering….

Should interracial/intertribal relationships still be an issue in the 21st century?

I know some really cute interracial couples.

Please share your thoughts…

What are the advantages or adverse effects of interracial/intertribal relationship?

Are you in one?

Also tell me if ‘Grotesquely’ is a word you use often.

I’ll love to read from you.

It always surprises me when people make a big deal out of interracial relationships because it just isn’t too me at this point… but it makes sense too when cultural difference come into play.

    • Phaytea

i know right…if the couple are willing to stay together..their choice should respected..Thank you for sharing your thoughts Sarah 🙂 🙂

I kind of understand that there might be communicational and cultural challenges in interracial relationships – especially if couple’s relatives are very concervative. However I think it’s a good thing that the world is shifting towards more liberal and accepting way (or at least the youngest generations are).

I used to live in multicultural (not racial because we both were white though from different countries) relationship and there was some conflicts. Nowadays I live with my fiancee whose from same country and race and it has been easier to deal with each others relatives. Anyhow, I think that the most important thing is that the couple has common understanding, good communication and shared goals and values – irrespective the race and cultural heritage.

    • Phaytea

Totally agree with you…once the couples involved have a common understanding, they deserve to be supported. All relationships have issues regardless of race…Thank you for sharing your thoughts lovely 🙂

Thx for the info re:grotesque!! I’m always surprised when interracial relationships are an issue…it just doesn’t even phase me!

  • Prerna Garg

I completely agree. It’s not difficult to understand that families may have some initial inhibitions about inter-cultural marriages/relationships but what I don’t understand is no openess in accepting them!

    • Phaytea

Same thoughts exactly…All relationships have issues regardless of the culture…it helps to be broadminded..Thank you for sharing your thoughts Prerna

Interracial relationships should not be an issue in our days when marriages are generally based on love, not for other reasons (well, there are some exceptions, of course). As for the word grotesquely, I didn’t use it more than several times in my entire life.

  • Victoria Lola

Until parents are educated and enlightened to realize that they have no say in their children’s choice of partner for marriage (maybe advice), it continues to be a problem
But then, for a parent to complain, then there must be a genuine reason that needs to be heard….. (other than cultural differences and other irrelevant excuses)

    • Phaytea

Hi Dear…I agree with you…i think parents should be more open minded and support their kids who are willing to have interracial relationships.. Once the basic things are achievable, the couple deserves to be happy…All relationships have issues even those from the same tribe…Nice to read from you Victoria 🙂 🙂

  • Anastasia Nicole

As someone who has & still dates interracially, I do not get why people care. Parents should take the approach that if your child is loved, cared for and happy it shouldn’t matter what color the person’s skin is. Everyone else should mind their own business.

    • Phaytea

You have spoken well…i really wish a lot more people see it this way…Thank you for sharing your thoughts Anastasia 🙂 🙂

How wonderful that you enjoy finding new words to incorporate into your vocabulary (and in blog posts no less)! I’ve heard that once you use a word three times it is forever cemented into your natural vocab. I like to think that’s true! Whenever I learn a new one I try to use it right away!!

As for interracial relationships, it makes me sad that they are still an issue for so many. There are so many injustices going on in the world that would be better suited to people’s rage. Why not re-direct some of that hostility towards items that can and SHOULD be changed. Love is love is love is love. Let it happen where it will. Hate on the other hand? That’s something we could work to change.

    • Phaytea

Thank you for the detailed contribution Beth..Love eeeeeet!!!! sharing new words here helps me and it means i can never forget the meaning. its embedded in my vocab list now… I get sad that a lot of us are still not open to interracial relationships. It’s even more sad to see the couple suffer because of public opinion

  • Mercy

Hmmm, I would choose the word Grotesque. In my view, it gives a punch to strong descriptions. On interracial relationships, I know first hand all the drama a person can face from both their own family members and the family members of their partner. It takes more than love to conquer all. It takes a deep understanding of loyalty and commitment to each other to overcome other people’s prejudices.

    • Phaytea

I totally agree with you….you got me at DEEP UNDERSTANDING OF LOYALTY AND COMMITMENT. Getting parents and relatives to consent is definitely not an easy phase …Thank you for sharing your thoughts Mercy 🙂 🙂

  • Arunas

I think that interracial and intercultural relationships are always full of interesting days because you often find yourself in an “unknown land”.

    • Phaytea

lol…You’re such a travel freak…i like that you are looking out for the advantages Arunas…Thank you for sharing your thoughts 🙂

  • ashley

i think that even though many people have accepted interracial relationships, there are still thousands even millions of people who don’t accept it.

  • nadicabecamacouk

I agree with Ashley even though many people have accepted interracial relationships, there are still millions of people who don’t accept it and it won’t be accepted. Until two things are different there will be always a tendency to compare and all problems begin when we start to compare. Not only love, you gonna need more things in order to face people who don’t want to accept.
